Building Permit Application Guidelines

The Land Use Decree of 1978 States that all lands in the State are vested on the Governor who shall hold it in trust and administer it for the benefit of all. Any individuals and organizations seeking to develop their land in Kano State can apply for a development (building) permit  which is within 14 days and the process is as follows:

  1. Obtain the application form from Architectural Department of Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority, at 2 Durbin Katsina Road, Kano off Hadejia Road. The application forms are is free
  2. Applicants are required to attached the following Document together with the Application Form and submit
  • Tenable Title Document (CofO by the Fedelral Government of Nigeria, CofO, Kano State Bureau for Land Management, Local Government Allocation Letter on KNUPDA Approve Layout, Letter of Grand, Title Document by Kano State Investment and Properties, Title Document by Kano State Housing Cooperation, Title Document by Nigerian Railway Authority,)
  • National ID Card or International Passport or Driver’s License or Voter’s Card
  • Proposed Architectural Drawing
  • Structural Drawing (applicable)
  • Mechanical Drawing (applicable)
  • Electrical Drawing (applicable)

All to be submitted Architectural Department via email arch@knupda.kn.gov.ng or to our office at no. 2 Durbin Katsina Road, Kano off Hadejia Road.

  1. Assessment by Architectural Department
    1. Density (Low, Medium or High)
    2. Usage (Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Agricultural)
    3. Location (Central Business Distric, Major Road, Neighborhood)
  2. Checking and Endorsement by the Director or Deputy Director Architecture
  3. Collection of Traction ID for the relevant fees
    1. Processing fee 25%
    2. Consultancy fee 25%
    3. Approval fee 50% (Refundable in case of Disapproval)
  4. Applicants can pay online with PayDirect or Interswitch E-Payment and also, they can pay by Bank Draft or Bank transfer using the transaction ID for easy payment verification with following bank details

Bank: United Bank for Africa, Account Number: 1019716320 Account Name: Kano IGR Non-Tax Revenue

  1. After Payment Verification the application will be forwarded to Managing Director for Directives to Architectural Department
  2. Director Architecture will forward the to Charting Office for Charting on the Layout/sheet and issues of the File Number
  3. Record Office will open File for the application and forward it to Architectural Department
  4. Director will forward to Deputy the Deputy will forward to the relevant Zone as Kano State is Sub divided into 4 Zones the Zonal officers will forward the file to Sector office
  5. Sector office will visit the site for physical situation report and report back to Zonal Office for Recommendation and also the forward it for relevant engineers when there is need
  6. Finally, Director will approve and forward to Managing Director for endorsement
  7. Applicant will Be Contacted via Email or Phone Number for collection from Architectural Department of Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority, at 2 Durbin Katsina Road, Kano off Hadejia Road.
